How do we construct ourselves as women and artists when few role models are passed on to us, when a part of history is missing? With her company Quai n°7, Juliette Steiner leads this reflection, seeking to reveal this missing heritage. In the tradition ofAn exhibitionWith the last mischievous touch of an invisibilized visual artist, the director brings back to life, in this creation, some little-known or forgotten paths.
It all begins with a conference. A presenter tries to introduce us to the work of a woman artist. But the video projector doesn't work, and nothing seems to be displayed about her life. And yet, she left her mark on her era and enjoyed a certain renown. The lecturer is struggling when we suddenly witness shifts in time and space.
Blending live visual arts, theater and improvised DJ set, four performers make women artists appear and disappear in a joyful play of echo and resonance. The elements unfold in ingenious ways, transforming the stage into a concert hall or workshop. Artemisia Gentileschi, Louise Bourgeois, Artemisia Gentileschi, Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven, the female cave painter and many more talents rub shoulders. To the rhythm of the music, the show re-appropriates their heritage, their words and their powerful works, all with a great deal of humor.
