Two men are lost in the cosmos. The stronger one is, the weaker the other, sinking into melancholy. Like two electric poles, they survive in strange, distant, weightless lands. The very physicality of the performers tells of their powerlessness or their dream of power. Their universe is entirely DIY, Jeanne Candel relying on the handcrafted tools and traditional artifices of theatrical fiction: here, no high-tech, no screens. Just a few props diverted from their primary function as witnesses to the setbacks of these crazy ideas to send Earthlings into space. Three pieces of scotch tape and a sacred chant, a trumpet and a sock can all be imagined to form a concrete, jubilant poem conjuring up darkness. This new creation is inspired by two sequences about cosmonauts "abandoned" in the MIR station in Visit Goût du faux and other songs (2014). Rockets is a kind of spin-off, a tale of the conquest of space in which we even mimic the transmission problems with Earth. We see everything when there's nothing there. The art of suggestion, bringing a dose of offbeat humor to a theater of operations, appeals to the childhood imagination that lies dormant within us.
After studying modern literature, Jeanne Candel enters the Conservatoire National Supérieur d'Art Dramatique, where she works with Andrzej Seweryn, Joël Jouanneau, Muriel Mayette and Arpàd Schilling, among others. In 2009, she founded her own company the short lifeco-directed from 2013 to 2020 with Samuel Achache, who is particularly interested in the relationship between music and theater. An "ensemble" where actors, musicians, directors, set designers, costume designers, technicians... meet regularly for periods of research and creation. Collective writing is what shapes their projects, and actors, musicians and singers are placed at the center and considered as creators. This polyphonic approach decompartmentalizes the functions and techniques of the people who create the company's shows. With her band, she has created several shows combining music and theater, including Le Crocodile tromepur / Dido and Aeneasco-directed with Samuel Achache in 2013, and more recently BAÙBO - the art of not being dead. She also directs opera, and in May 204 returned to the stage with her staging of Brùndibar by Hans Krása, which she premiered at Opéra de Lyon in 2016. Since July 2019, she has been co-directing the Théâtre de l'Aquarium in Paris with Marion Bois and Élaine Méric.
