"What's your favorite color?" To answer this question is to expose a subjectivity, to reveal or affirm an identity. With long-time collaborator and author Ronan Chéneau, David Bobée takes up this question to stage his first show for young audiences. In a set imagined as a pop-up book, full of light and video effects, and accompanied by a joyful musical scoreMy favorite color is a supercharged sensory experience. Three characters, played by whimsical and generous actors, travel through color charts and works of art in search of the best color in the world and of all time to paint their home. They hesitate, are astonished, take a stand, the quest does not meet with consensus. But they let themselves be carried away by the tsunami of images that washes over them. In the course of this exploration, from the orange earths of the Congo to the virgin forests of Douanier Rousseau, pink raises the question of gender, green that of ecology, while black evokes fear of the unknown and the rainbow that of living together and tolerance... Picture after picture, color after color, chatting, singing, dancing, they stir up philosophical and political questions, but also questions of identity. What if beauty was debate? What if beauty meant never agreeing? What if the beauty of color lay in those who looked at it?

Director, set designer and theater manager, David Bobée founded Compagnie Rictus in 1999. His creations combine theater, dance, circus, video, lighting... with professional and amateur performers from diverse cultures. He stages plays from the repertory as well as works by living authors, and collaborates in particular with Ronan Chéneauwhose dramatic texts speak to the meaning of our times through raw linguistic material drawn from advertising and newspapers. David Bobée directs operas and collaborates with numerous artists and institutions, including abroad. After directing the Centre Dramatique National de Normandie-Rouen, he was appointed director of the Théâtre du Nord and the École du Nord, École professionnelle supérieure d'Art Dramatique. Through his works, writings and actions, he defends a high idea of public service in culture, and commits his theater against all forms of discrimination. In 2015, he became a member of the Collège de la diversité at the French Ministry of Culture, and co-founded the Décoloniser les arts collective, working for greater consideration of diversity on stage.
